Our Yoga Classes
Each of our classes are designed to help you experience deep relaxation, stretch and soothe, and strengthen the body. Specializing in Gentle Yoga, a meditation in motion practicing mindful movements.
Gentle Yoga – Extra Gentle classes are great for beginners—and everyone interested in a slow, therapeutic, peaceful practice. This class includes basic breathing exercises as well as a variety of standing, sitting, and supine postures.
Vinyasa Yoga – Students will focus on linking conscious breath with a vigorous and mindful flow. These classes consist of a lot more strengthening and balancing poses to increase strength and flexibility.
Slow Flow Vinyasa Yoga – These classes are at a moderate level. This class allows students to bring the element of time into the practice. The practitioner has time to mentally engage with the body as it moves through a series of poses. Poses will be held for longer periods of time in order for students to explore the pose and feel their breath in their body.
Restorative Yoga – Restorative yoga allows you to experience the ease that underlies a more active yoga practice. Gentle, calming, and therapeutic, restorative yoga uses supportive props and emphasizes “surrendering to gravity” to allow for total relaxation in every pose. This healing yoga style is a favorite for those with injuries or high stress, or during major life transitions.
Osteo Strength Yoga - Increase bone strength in these classes that include yoga and pilates postures with light weights. This class is for all levels and students are able to choose their own weights or bring their own.
Happy Hour Yoga – This lively class is for students of all levels and features a different upbeat playlist every week. Each class begins with a short centering meditation, yoga poses to balance mind, body, and spirit, and a soothing savasana to help unwind from the work week.
Meditation – Meditation is a great way to unplug and calm the mind. This class is practiced seated on a yoga blanket or in a chair. Breath work along with visualizations and other tools will aid in helping us slow down the business of the mind.
Chakra Meditation – Our chakras, or energy centers, of the body, help keep us feeling peaceful, balanced, and in harmony. When one of our chakras are out of balance, we tend to feel off. Each chakra center relates to a certain area of our lives. Each week, we will focus on the different chakras to bring our mind, body, and spirit back to balance.
Yoga Nidra/Deep Rest Meditation – Yoga nidra or “yogic sleep” is a sleep-like state that brings calmness and clarity to the mind. It is known as the deepest state of relaxation while still maintaining full consciousness. Yoga Nidra has the power to take you to the innermost, deepest levels of relaxation where your entire body and being is permeated by peace of mind and profound stillness. It unlocks the mystical, integrative powers of the subconscious and your higher centers of consciousness to effortlessly erase your most tenacious, self-destructive habits and behavior patterns held unconsciously in your physical, mental, and emotional bodies. This technique helps us to restore and replenish ourselves.
Tai Chi – Tai Chi (also Taiji, or Taijiquan), is an “internal” Chinese martial art that over the last century has become known for its ability to improve the health and well being of regular practitioners. Tai Chi can be viewed to create a great balance between strength and grace, beauty and power, ebb and flow. That said, understanding that tai chi is a martial art is imperative to truly gain its benefits and deeper appreciation of the practice. At The Long Island Center for Yoga, the primary form taught is the Classical Northern Wu Taijiquan long form. Northern Wu style taijiquan is characterized by a medium frame and forward oriented stances. It emphasizes large “internal” movements over large frame external movements in order to generate power.
Shamanic Reiki Circle – Reiki is a Japanese healing technique where energy is transmitted through the hands. In this Shamanic Reiki Healing Circle, we first create a sacred space to align with the healing energies of the earth, stars and universe. We begin with a gentle guided meditation to center ourselves. We may engage in a gentle candle ceremony to release energetically what no longer serves us, in order to facilitate opening to Healing Life Force Energy and Reiki. All are welcome to receive Reiki. Reiki practitioners are welcome to both give and receive Reiki.
Shamanic Reiki Circle – Enjoy a yoga practice not limited by pain or injury by participating in chair yoga. Rosemary will lead you through a short meditation, breathing techniques, and simple yoga postures while seated in a chair. This class will help increase balance, strength, flexibility, and mental clarity.
